MAKING KIGEZI THRIVE

ICOB’s flagship philanthropic initiative, the Kigezi Education Fund, represents our commitment to empowering the next generation. Through education, vocational training, and access to resources, Kigezi will thrive.

Rukingiri Technical Institute

The ICT Center at Rukungiri Technical Institute was completed in early 2008 and commissioned on June 14, 2008. The project includes an array of ICT hardware and software including computers, printers and a photocopier, connected with a local area network and internet, and with regular electricity supply together with back-up facilities to ensure a continuous service to the Institute and the surrounding educational institutions at Kyamakanda. The surrounding community in Buyanja township and Rukungiri municipality is benefiting from the project through training programs in basic computer skills. The ICT center fits very well in the modernization program of the Institute, which has attracted millions of dollars of support from the African Development Bank.

The ICT Center At Uganda Martyrs Technical Institute Nyarushanje

After the experience gained from supporting ICT centers at Rukungiri Technical Institute and Kisoro Technical Institute, a larger and more ambitious ICT Center was developed at Uganda Martyrs Technical Institute Nyarushanje through the upgrading and modernization of an ICT department; funding was provided for the supply and installation of 25 computers with associated accessories, furniture and equipment, and with connection to a local area network and internet. While the ICT department was serving all the 4 districts of the Kigezi sub-region, the new ICT center serves not only the 4 districts but also the neighboring regions inside and outside Uganda. The ICT Center was completed in June 2013 and formally launched in December 2013.

The ICT Center At Muhabura Technical School, Seseme, Kisoro

The ICT Center at Muhabura Technical School, Seseme, Kisoro was designed and implemented using the Rukungiri Technical Institute as the model. Like the latter, the center has an array of ICT hardware and software connected with a local area network and internet. It was implemented in partnership with Kisoro Development Association, and was opened in July 2012 to serve its students and the neighboring community.

Nyakatare Technical Institute

The Center of Excellence for Electrical and Plumbing Programs at Nyakatare Technical Institute was completed in late 2009 and commissioned on November 13, 2010. It includes a new building block which houses a multi-purpose workshop and a wide range of electrical equipment to use for teaching and practical work. At the time it was commissioned, the Electrical Program had already received its first intake of students. The Plumbing Program is still in the planning stages.
